Our Manifesto to Man
by
Abdul Baffah
It’s a universal fact that humans are the most complex creatures on earth. In the annals of history, man has done countless incomprehensible atrocities to the environment, biosphere, troposphere and atmosphere. We, the Floras and Faunas, the custodians of earth, we dwell, occupy and flourish in every part of this earth. We maintain balance in the ecosystem and ensure that this planet is habitable even for man.

As plants, we are almost incapable of vengeance, we sustain mankind, we are not hateful neither envious to Homo Sapiens. Today, we are endangered. Faced with the threat of extinction and systematic destruction of our species, we raise our voice, we speak out against man’s ignorant attempts to eradicate plant life ignorantly, because without plants, human life on this planet will be non-existent. We are the sustenance of the earth, the backbone of mother nature to whom all men are fallible.

Man! Hear our cry, pay heed to our tears streaming in form of waterfalls, sometimes it is a fiery outburst as witnessed in the eruption of volcanoes. Liberate us from your cruelty. Be gentle with nature, only thus can you save the planet.

This is our story

I am the Lion, the King of the jungle. Living in Africa, many of our kind are on edge. In our nation, we are law abiding citizens. Even though we engage in tribal wars, Lion against Zebra and Tiger against Buffalo, and at times lives are lost in the civil unrest our population is ascending geometrically. However our greatest menace is the ambush we ceaselessly suffer at the hands of sons and daughters of Adam, they make our life miserable and chaotic.
Whenever I look around and there’s no Cecil, I feel agony and indignation. Mr. Palmer, a certified hunter in the nation of Robert Mugabe. A man referred to as a scientist, murdered Cecil in cold blood. Barbaric acts like these happen all the time. Because of the heartlessness of man Cecil the friendly is no more. Goodbye dear friend and rest in peace.
We, the animals of the jungle, big and small are fatigued by the constant invasion and hunt by man. Tired of your teeming massacres of our hapless souls all in the name of cash, blood money I think.
Your mining activities, your wars and nuclear bombs destroy many delicacies like the acacia, preserve for the elephants. Without it they become malnourished and bid the world goodbye. To unjustly get at our skins, ivories and the heads of our brothers and sisters as a symbol of pride for man’s myopic reasoning and superstitions, some rich people entice heartless men to raid us. Oh! Man, let peace reign in our kingdom.
We seek a diplomatic re-solution. Peace is priceless; it is worth more than a valley of gold.

My name is Amazon rainforest, with the hyponym lungs of the Planet; I convert so much carbon dioxide to the world. I am situated in South America, almost fifty per cent of my physique is founded in Brazil and I cover an area of over six million acres.
In our territory, all the citizens are law abiding and none of us are violent to country folks. All the clans from a million insect species to tens of thousands of fauna and flora, and countless birds wave the flag of peace to one another, we do not desire hatred, but man, never minding that you are not one of us, you shackle us, and you do not spare us! We seek freedom from you Oh! Man.
For clueless purposes you unroot our flowering plants and shrubs and their likes never minding that we are a romantic and peaceful domain, a preserve of Mother Nature. Man, you can’t live without us, why did you behave like Cain against his brother by killing us daily.
Ours is a world without words, neither fauna nor flora can enter into activism, to speak out our grievances like Nelson Mandela did to salvage his people at the height of apartheid in the Rainbow Nation. Our citizens have no need of your technology. We cannot coin a hash tag like #BringBackOurGirls for it to go viral on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram like your many images of protest.
Our dear sister rainforest in Africa is tagged as “Heart of Darkness” by Joseph Conrad. Congo rainforest critically hangs on the fringes of trauma, a trauma that will not be erased by artificial human re-forestation. Because there is an adage that goes “A spectacle prescribed by an optician can never be as good as the vision of one’s natural eyes”.
Man, your attempts at re-forestation after the ethnic cleansing on our natural habitat is puerile. Your crimes against the inhabitants of the Congo rainforest grow more merciless by the day. I ask why are Monkeys, Antelopes, Bats, Hares and many other creatures of nature killed, smoked, dried and salted as food?
      Think wisely, man!
You kill us for “Bush meat”, too often we are caught by a snare and shot, with no decent funeral to kiss the world goodbye. Oh! Man, why can’t you think? Our blood will not be spilled in vain. The backlash is hemorrhagic fever and diseases such as Ebola.

I scream, I shout, no one hears me. The Great Whale Lulu is no more with us. Lulu was found breathless at the bank of the Isle of Tiree. Scores of crustacean across the marine world are in sober disposition.
The Great Whale was nicknamed Lulu by man, and the same man ends his life by toxic chemicals as the autopsy revealed. Lulu, rest in peace, till we meet in the Garden of Eden.
Other souls like Lobsters, Coral Reel, Oysters, and Octopus have been abducted for slavery and slaughter, such mindlessness is unheard of, oh! Man, can’t you think it is not good to put an end to lives.
I, the Dolphin attest that man is guilty of many crimes against nature. Even with my high intelligence quotient I am yet to escape his sadistic cunning. I mimic his gestures, somersault to make man gleeful. Like Lulu, I fear that one day my skeleton will be stored at the National Museum in Scotland for people to see and photograph in the name of tourism.
My nostalgia for Lulu is eternal. Rest in peace Lulu the Great One.
The existence of all our peoples is threatened from fish to crustaceans, from mollusks to roe. Deposits of toxic properties are daily heaped on us. Naval and other human activities on our oceans cause huge losses in maritime lives.
Man beware, silence is not a response of fear! Silence could be a strategy of war!

We Donkeys, for hundreds of years we have lived, harmless to man but unfortunately, domesticated by man. Rather than be respected and cherished for our workforce we are been treated as mere pack animals. Oh man, desist from regarding us with scorn and derision simply because we are not predators.
In the third world nations as formulated by Alfred Sauvy, we are shackled and led into mining fields, construction sites and all sort of downgraded works.
Oh! Man, why are you so treacherous to us? Most times we are subject to your whip, you care only for yourselves, this is not right. For all our hard work you pay us with fatal loads. Ethnic cleansing of Jenny and Foal is a topic of concern but the entire world is mute. Like the Arab Springs, soon we too will revolt and reclaim our pride and dignity.
From Ouagadougou to N’Djamena, from Asmara to Niamey, and from Cairo to Dares Salam our population is threatened. The Chinese demand for our hide for a traditional concoction called “ejiao”. Oh! Man, why can’t you use other alternatives for curing your illness, not our skin. We are living souls.

Emperor Penguin in Antarctic does not support the mischief of man, his hatred and malice to disciples of Mother Nature.
Proudly, you invent a phrase “Climate Change”. Did you know? Beside Emperor Penguin there are many other souls. I, Penguin unanimous agreed to became a democratic leader for all souls in Antarctica, all races of Penguins, Seals, and Albatrosses. I am cherished as a compassionate leader, not tyrannical like man.
Man, open your ears and decode a strong warning we the steward of the Antarctica. Oh! Man, we don’t have ability to write on a placard to say our outrage. We don’t have any medium to chant against your savage acts. But Mother Nature is on our side, more powerful than you, she speaks for us.
Think about rising sea levels, you know well that the Maldives is soon to submerge. If serious actions are not taken against your “Global warming”. Of course you are aware of the consequences; ocean acidification, changing rain patterns, drought and flood, extreme weather events and less access to clean water.
Think about Typhoon Haiyan, think about Haiti earthquake, and think about Hurricane Katrina, Maria and Irma. Enormous calamities from great Mother Nature might be impending.

On the mountains of Southwestern China; Minshan, Qinling,, Liangshan and Tibetan Plateau, there once was a friendly giant Panda, a peaceful vegetarian soul, lover of Mother Nature. But like a dangerous foe, man ensnares us day by day we live with the burden of you. We pandas are not interested in your meal. Bamboo trees as our source of nutrition. You aggressively intrude on our domain and frustrate our attempts at living harmoniously.
Bamboo trees our main source of food are massively uprooted, because of expanding human settlements. New farmlands are created at the expense of giant Panda. We say your ill- treatment to our habitation is enough. For thousands years, we have lived autonomously in this kingdom. Oh! Man, your population explodes daily and thus your need to occupy vast lands throughout the world.
Chinese, control your birth rate, do not jeopardize our happiness we are the sacred children of Mother Nature. We are pleading with you in a polite manner, not through acts of terrorism. It’s a fact that your population makes our planet miserable.
I, the giant Panda, I do hope our outcry is heard otherwise Impending danger and great devastation is soon to bloom. Enough is enough!

We trees; the bonafide citizens of the planet, millennia upon millennia we are loving, friendly and as children of the ecosystem and Mother Nature we provide serenity to all.
Our race is more than the population of humans. Docilely we are enslaved by man. Our crime being that we create romance, provide food, relaxation, peace and quiet beneficial to the wellbeing of man. At no price we connect man to Mother Nature. We curb calamity, we tackle soil erosion and other discomforts attacking man.
But what do we get in return for our kindness, deforestation, bush burning mischievously, or for the sake of hunting animal life man ignites fires on us, fell us without thought. Such arson will only yield havoc which creates tensions not only to habitations but the ecosystem. Oh! Man, we are a blessing to you, can’t you see?
We are not violent to utter fierce utterances because our language is monolingual, cut across continent around the world; it is the language of peace! Benevolence from us surpasses man’s reckoning. Trees produce papers for man to read and write, from trees man makes sticks be it toothpicks or chopsticks, trees gives you life in form of oxygen, coffin is made from trees for man to deposit his lost loved ones into the ground. Trees provide shelter for man to live in peace. Above all trees are a panacea to worry, they that gives man a kind of spiritual elixir. Trees break violent windstorms seeking to destroy man. We speak in one voice, SAY NO TO ECOCIDE or destroy us at your own peril.

I am the Golden Eagle, come to liberate the plight of faunas and souls of floras. Several inhumane treatments have bedeviled us, be it atop and beneath our habitation. Oh! Man, you want to wipe us out like the Dinosaurs of old which now, only exist in the chronicles of history. Put an end to your folly.
Why can’t you focus your energies on making the world a better place? Oh! Man, consider the benefit of this earth, this environment which Mother Nature has bestowed on us. Cease your misconduct. Let us make a truce one to another, only by doing so would we make this world peace and habitable for all.
Oh man, we do not need an access to your International Criminal Court I.C.C in the Hague, to file our cases against you neither do we need to be part of your United Nations general assembly to petition the higher court of nature against you atrocious doings.
Our vengeance and retaliation, it will be more dangerous than Hiroshima and Nagasaki, beyond Hitler’s holocaust and the Rwandan genocide, it is far worse than the attacks of terrorists or the attacks of aliens.
Be warned! This is our plea, our petition and manifesto!
